There’s a reason the Kindred choose not Embrace too young. Childer who haven’t yet matured as mortals inevitably have difficulty facing the vagaries of the Embrace. Tayshawn Keams is an example of this. Soon after Marlena arrived in New York, she decided to make a childe of her own, free as she was from the supervision of her own sire. With her desire to make a name for herself, she thought she could use a lackey sorts. While prowling the streets of Brooklyn one nigl she spotted a lone boy running down the street toward t comer grocer. Her mind immediately conjured a roman1 notion of the youth, dutifully running to the store for 1 parents, both of whom had just completed their shifts their third jobs, and she thought such a loyal son WOL make an excellent fledgling. As it tums out, Tayshawn w a running to the store f his father, but only to buy the old man a quart of Mil High Life. Before he knew what was going on, his sire-t be snatched him off the street, Embraced him in an all( and the two fled into the night. When they rose the ne evening, Tayshawn’s mind buzzed with events of t previous night. Confused, he knew something was hor bly wrong, but he felt immediately drawn toward Marler She told him that she was now his master, and that if served her faithfully, she would tum him loose, so that ’ might be a master of his own childe. Since then, Tayshawn has slowly learned more ab0 Kindred society, realizing Marlena’s claim of dominan overhimforthelie thatit is. Stil1,hehasnooneelse totu to in his state -his friends wouldn’t believe him and 1. father would probably beat him for being gone so lo (years now, as a matter of fact), and that’s assuming the c man’s still alive. For the time being, he allows Marlen whims to give him purpose, trying to find something smile about under it all. As the nights wear on, Marlen, wants become more and more complicated, though, ai Tayshawn’s responsibility for them has frayed him at tl edges a bit.
Roleplaying
Being dragged into this world of blood and treachery is a punishment forsomedungyou’ve done, but you don’t yet know what. When you do find out, you can hopefully gain release from it. In the meantime, it doesn’t all have to be as serious as the other Kindred make it. There’s still plenty to laugh at -you just have to look harder for it. Even when Marlena sends you out to do somehng you don’t want to do, you try to make it as light-hearted as you can, and make whoever goes along with you laugh.
