Description
“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” -Charles Baudelaire. Most infernalists are unable to accomplish this great feat, however, and live an existence blanketed in paranoia, under the constant threat of discovery. You have learned to call the aid of infernal magics at just the right time, twisting the words of your accusers to ensure you survive another night.
System
To prepare this ritual, weave a length of knotted rope at least long enough to be worn around your wrist while chanting your target's name. You must either have familiarity with your target, or you must entwine a piece of them (such as a length of hair or skin, a pinch of ashes, etc.) into the rope.
Your Storyteller will then engage your target in an opposed challenge using your Dark Thaumaturgy test pool. If your challenge was successful, you may break or untie the knot with a simple action. After you have done so and for the remainder of the night any time your target attempts to accuse you of something nefarious or would result in scrutiny upon you, she instead inserts the name of the person she is speaking to instead of yours. If she attempts to make an open declaration without naming names, she must instead use the name of the closest individual.
While your aura does not appear infernal after you have finished crafting the rope, the rope maintains an infernal aura while it is whole, so it is wise to keep it hidden from view.
