The Sword of Caine
The Sabbat
The Sabbat is a fanatical sect of vampires who reject humanity and embrace their monstrous nature. Originally founded to oppose the Antediluvians — the godlike progenitors of the clans — the Sabbat has devolved into a cult of violence and religious fervor in the modern nights.
Philosophy
The Sabbat believes that vampires are a superior species, not cursed humans clinging to lost humanity. They reject the Masquerade as cowardice and the Camarilla as a tool of the Antediluvians to keep younger vampires docile. The Sabbat's stated goal is to prepare for Gehenna — the vampiric apocalypse — and to destroy the Antediluvians before they can devour their descendants.
History
The Sabbat emerged from the Anarch Revolt of the 15th century. While many rebels accepted the Convention of Thorns and joined the Camarilla, a faction of hardliners refused to submit. Led by the Lasombra and Tzimisce — clans whose Antediluvians had supposedly been destroyed by their own childer — they formed the Sabbat as an anti-Camarilla force.
For centuries, the Sabbat waged war against the Camarilla in a conflict called the Jyhad. Their tactics were brutal: mass Embraces creating disposable shock troops, siege warfare against Camarilla cities, and the practice of diablerie — consuming another vampire's soul to steal their power. The Sabbat's violence was tempered only by the Vaulderie, a blood-sharing ritual that created pack loyalty.
The Sabbat's theology centers on the Book of Nod and the figure of Caine, the First Vampire. They worship Caine as both father and future destroyer, believing that Gehenna will be a glorious reckoning where the faithful are rewarded. This religious dimension has grown stronger over time, transforming the Sabbat from a political faction into a genuine death cult.
In the modern nights, the bulk of the Sabbat has departed for the Middle East, drawn by signs and portents suggesting Gehenna is imminent. They wage a shadow war against ancient evils in the cradle of civilization. The Sabbat's departure from the West has left a power vacuum, but those who remain are the most fanatical and dangerous members of an already extreme sect.
The Code of Milan
The formal set of laws governing Sabbat society, including loyalty to the sect, obedience to leadership, and the duty to wage war against the Antediluvians.
The Vaulderie
A blood-sharing ritual that creates Vinculum — artificial blood bonds — among pack members, ensuring loyalty and unity within Sabbat packs.
Reject Humanity
The Sabbat encourages its members to follow Paths of Enlightenment — alternative moral codes that embrace their vampiric nature rather than clinging to human morality.
Prepare for Gehenna
The Sabbat's ultimate purpose: prepare for the end times when the Antediluvians rise, and be ready to fight them or die trying.
