their Suchid forms. Among them there have been many heroes, and they are the greatest warriors among the Mokol6.
The Zhong Lung, the Stream of the Philosophers, are the scholars and teachers of the Dragon Breed, the stream least harmed by the ravages of the Garou. They are the Mokol6 of the Middle Kingdom, including China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and surrounding areas. They have great learning and share it with the other shapeshifters of the East, the hengeyokai. In their Homid forms, they are Asians of various kinds, and in their Suchid forms, they are Chinese alligators, saltwater crocodiles and monitor lizards. Like their kin the Makara, they count their auspices by the seasons of the year, not by the times of day.
But every stream has a spring, and all four streams of the Mokok remember their source in the Dinosaur Kings.
According to the most ancient of Mokol6 lore, these reptilian toolmakers walked Gaia’s Face two hundred million years ago, and were Her original guardians. Their living cities and tools surpassed any work of human hands, and their Memory served them in place of written record or schooling. Among them the Mokok of that age were scholars, teachers, soldiers, workers, hunters and priests of Sun.
Their reign endured for over one hundred and fifty million years, until a mysterious catastrophe called the Great Dying or the Wonderwork of the Wyrm laid them low. No Mokol6 who saw this disaster lived to speak of it, but in time, surviving Kin produced more shapeshifters. The next sixty Sunrise: Dragons in our Midst million years were an Age of Sleep, from which the Mokol6 awakened when human beings evolved. In the Wars of Rage the Garou savaged the Mokoli, and the memory of the slaughter remains fresh today. The Mokol6 are the Memory of Gaia, and each one carries within him a myriad of ancestral names and faces. This tumult of inner voices makes it a wonder that the Mokoli ever get anything done at all, but in fact they have a complex social order, one traditional since the time of the Kings. aragon Society The past ain’t dead. It ain’t even past.
William Faulkner Mokol6 are anything but tribal. Their concerns are at once more global and more local. Their society, embracing both Changers and Kin, is one of strict roles and close community.
Mokoli live among humans when they must, but prefer the company of Kin and other weresaurians. They realize this by grouping into wallows - homes for the human and reptile shapes that they take. A wallow can be a traditional village, an apartment building (hopefully with a pool!), a remote jungle mudhole, or a high-tech alligator refuge with tourist shows. Visitors can be admitted (or eaten), but the wallow belongs to the clutch. Clutches can be rivals to one another, competing for lands, mates and treasures through courtship, games, ridicule and even dueling. But as the Mokol6 dwindle in number, their main concern is the struggle for survival against the encroaching forces of the human despoilers. The forces of a market economy are cutting forests, damming streams, and scattering Kin to the winds. Like their enemies, the Garou, the Mokol6 see and fear the death of Mother Gaia. This has moved MokolC all over the earth from thought to action.
A Mokol6’s role in his society is determined by his sun sign. The Rising Suns are hunters, explorers and soldiers.
The Noonday Suns are judges, lawmakers and executioners.
The Setting Suns protect and defend, while the Midnight Suns are clowns, poets and doers of the impossible. The Shrouded Suns perform the mysteries, while Mokol6 born beneath a haloed or Decorated Sun organize. Finally, the rare MokolC born under an eclipse are rulers and priests.
Mokol6 are born either human or reptile, and live as such, having no special powers, until adolescence. At maturity, the ancestral memories of the MokolC emerge, and the young Mokole falls into a trawe. At that time, a new sh&+ is born: the battle-form, the di Kings. When the trance ends, a experience binds all Mokol6 tog memories it holds a “Before, I was like aman. I’mnothingnow, all brokenup.
So 1’11 remain in the water, and everyone will be afraid of me.”
