Mokole‘ 7/7-- Kin: T h e ‘Eighth Sunff I met you in a cave You were paintin’ buffalo I said I’d be your slave Follow wherever you go Don Was Mokol6 human Kin are usually traditional peoples of the tropics, Old World and New. As Westernization erodes their traditional way of life, they have moved closer to the Designer.
However, many have sought to combine the best of old and new.
Kin who parent a true Mokol6 are accorded great honor, as well as the titles “Siring” (for fathers) and “Carrying” or “Bearing” (for mothers), along with their clutch name. Fathers can make more true Mokol6, but the work of bearing them is with the female, and so the two receive equal honor.
Kinfolk characters do receive Matre dice for parenting true Mokol6, although they do not have full awareness of their Matre; they call on it instinctively rather than consciously.
Mokol6 court and arrange matches carefully using Brood Kenning, so that happiness and many children will result: romantic love matches are unusual. Kin also aid in Mokol6 Kin do not undergo the Rite of Passage and do not have true Mnesis. The memories are latent within them, though, and Kin with Gnosis may have the occasional dreams or visions of ancestral memories at the Storyteller’s discretion. Kinfolk are also responsible for the Mokol6 alligator farms of the American South. Unlike other, more conventional gator farms, these aren’t sources of food or skins. They are wallows of refuge for homid and suchid alike. Kin alligators are matched to produce true Mokol6, while non-Kin are raised for “wilderness reclamation” or to stock zoos. Human visitors are encouraged to see the alligator show for a fee - it rarely includes true Mokol6 performing elaborate tricks. Notably, the American alligator has increased in number from a few hundred to over one million through human and Mokol6 intervention. Of course, the Midnight Suns say that these are actually “human farms” where gators lounge at their ease while scurrying twolegs feed them. At some, true Mokol6 are present as guides, but none has managed a complete clutch. Traditional Mokol6 elders fret and fume that such places are no better than prisons and that no good will come of them. They may be right: at least one “farmboy” has fallen to the Dissolver and risen to a place of power among the Dissolver’s human support network.

“Anything? There are a lot of other weird creatures in the world, I know. Ever meet a vampire?”
Kinbreb “Stalkers of the night! Easy enough to step on them.
You think you hate those things? Imagine how we feel. The blood-devils are destroyed when they see Sun’s face. I hear that there are a lot of different kinds of them. Those who serve Set are the worst. They took Egypt away from us and destroyed it. FromKin I hear that the blood-devilsfight each other. Maybe they’ll kill each other. That would be good.”
Noonday: Us Wages “There are different kinds of witches and spook-men too.
The Bata’a are friends to our Mokole-mbembe cousins in Africa and America. The mob knows another kind called Dreamspeakers. They have some honor; many areKin. In Khem there were some cunning men called Hem-ka Sobk a long time ago. They worshipped Sobek, Crocodile spirit of the Nile, and were good to us. Of the rest we know little. Don’t they destroy Garou wallows? Then they’re not all bad. Oh.. . sorry, Peter.”
“It’s okay. I know Garou have done a lot of bad stuff to you.”
“No. You aren’t the only ones at fault. We both fought in the Wars of Rage. We both have to fight to make peace. Not just fighting our own people when they want to keep up old grudges, but fighting ourselves, when our rage tries to control us. Fighting to become more than we are. It isn’t easy.”
For the first time Peter saw how difficult and scary this must have been for Jeffo’s mob. Garou were slaughterers, squatters, killers of Bunyip and Gumagan. How many wallows would have invited a Garou to visit them? To become one of them? How many Garou had been offered the chance to see themselves as others saw them? That alone was priceless. He was grateful. He had to try.
Mummies “But in Egypt the Memory tells us about another kind of immortal, women and men whose bodies died, but who kept coming back. Guards-the-Path is like that. Hedies, but lives again.”
“What, like ‘The Mummy’s Curse’?”
“Yeah. Mummies and such. Made ’em by magic, so they’d never die. We know it worked. The Memory sees ’em.
They like us because everyone else has forgot the world they lived in. So every so often they’ll seek us out for a chat. One came to see us about fifty years ago, Morwangu told me, name of Psammtik, something like that. The old chap was just fullofgossip about Hatshepsut’s sex life. Kept Monvangu jawing all night, he did. Wonderful conversation.”
“What are they like, then? Like vampires?”
“No, not at all - well, most of ’em. Got some odd Gifts and rites, but they don’t eat people, drink blood, all that rot.
Rather weird, so we heard. When I see them in the Memory, they’re right sad. Can’t die, and their world is gone. Fight each other, I’d think. It’s all they have left.”
“‘Most of ’em.. . and the others?”
“Well, there’s some as is worse. Time ate ’em, they fell to the Dissolver. They’re name-eaters, memory-eaters. Or they were. If any are still around, I don’t know. Nasty old rotters. Run if you meet one.”
Wraiths “What about real ghosts? Have you met any?”
“Real as your hand, mate. Buggers what die bad don’t “But Garou who die, they don’t become ghosts. I mean, stay in the ground, that’s all.” do they?”
Shadow, though?”
